Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) is a very unique joint in our body. Disorders of the joint have a variety of causes and they can be related to the joint structure itself (intracapsular disorders) or surrounding parts of stomato-gnathic system (muscles, teeth, jaws).

Frequent headaches, neck and jaw pain, worn teeth, and a clicking or popping jaw can all be signs of a temporomandibular disorder. For many patients, an untreated bite disorder can adversely affect daily quality of life.

COMMON TMJ SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:

  • TEETH GRINDING OR CLENCHING
  • WORN DENTITION
  • HEADACHES
  • NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN
  • LIMITED MOBILITY IN THE JAW
  • CLICKING OR POPPING WHEN OPENING OR CLOSING JAW
  • EARACHES

Dr. Dejan Golalic has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of bite disorders such as TMJ and can help patients achieve results that will not only relieve symptoms but address overall dental health. As a “Dawson trained dentist”, Dr. Golalic applies the principles of complete dentistry, taking a comprehensive approach to evaluating a patient’s bite. Complete dentistry goes beyond treating the symptoms of a bite disorder and seeks to identify and treat the underlying cause to restore balance to the bite.

After gathering records needed for comprehensive occlusal analysis (photos, impressions, bite registrations etc.), Dr Golalic will review the findings with the patient in a personable manner. Treatment plans are individually made to meet the expectations and resolve the problems and discomfort.

Treatment of TMJ disorders can include splint therapy as well as reshaping, repositioning and restoring of the teeth. In more complex cases repositioning of the jaws could be indicated in order to achieve complete resolution of symptoms.
